Everyone is talking about GMOs these days, but do they really know what they’re talking about? Let’s check out the facts. GMO stands for Genetically Modified Organism. It means that the organism has had its DNA changed. The controversy of GMOs lies in produce. People are worried that eating genetically modified vegetables or fruit could be bad for your health. One of the main reasons for GM food is to make a plant resistant to bacteria, diseases, or pests. By changing the genetic make-up, less pesticides may need to be used. Although the long-term effects are still unknown, research has shown GMOs to be harmless. It seems that growing a better plant could make it easier to feed more people. The American Association for the Advancement of Science and the World Health Organization agree that there are no health risks associated with eating GMOs. There is tons of research to back this up. Don’t let a fear of GMOs stop you from eating 5 servings of fruits and vegetables everyday.
