With “omega-3” being one of the biggest health buzzwords out there, fish foods like salmon have justifiably been hailed as a superfood. However, for those on a budget, there are cheaper alternatives such as mackerel, which is equally rich in these good fats. For an even bigger saving, tinned mackerel and sardines are a fraction of the price, and contain just as much omega-3 as their fresh counterparts.

Tinned fish also have the added benefit of containing the bones (which soften during the tinning process, making them edible), and these provide an excellent source of calcium. Another perk is that they require no cooking or preparation.
